Researchers have found large amounts of microplastics in our Great Lakes – the source of drinking water for 40 million people. They’ve found alarming amounts of microplastics in Great Lakes fish – among the highest levels reported worldwide. They’ve found microplastics in people’s blood, breast milk, brains, lungs, hearts, placentas, and other organs.  

Great Lakes states can set us on a path toward a cleaner, more sustainable future – by monitoring for microplastics in water, holding producers responsible, and phasing out the worst single-use plastic items.
