Tell Your State: Keep Plastic Out of the Great Lakes & Our Drinking Water

Plastic cups and bottles litter the shoreline.

Plastic never goes away. It just breaks down into smaller and smaller particles called microplastics.

Researchers have found large amounts of microplastics in our Great Lakes – the source of drinking water for 40 million people. They’ve found alarming amounts of microplastics in Great Lakes fish – among the highest levels reported worldwide. They’ve found microplastics in people’s blood, breast milk, brains, lungs, hearts, placentas, and other organs.

Great Lakes states can set us on a path toward a cleaner, more sustainable future. Tell your state to improve our health and protect the Great Lakes and our drinking water – by monitoring for microplastics in water, holding producers responsible, and phasing out the worst single-use plastic items.

Add your information to get started. You must live in a Great Lakes state.
